I am blessed (or cursed) enough to have a Lakeshore Learning store here in Phoenix, Arizona. I recently took a trip there and thought I would share with you my mini “haul.” I have included individual links for some of the products if you do not have a Lakeshore store near you (or online shopping is your jam).
Hear Myself Sound Phone $5.99
https://www.lakeshorelearning.com/products/el/s/EE538
I have had this sound phone on my list for a long time! You can use this device to improve phonemic awareness and auditory discrimination with articulation kids. However, I also had this sound phone in mind for kids on my caseload who enjoy auditory sensory input.
GIANT Idiom cards $19.99
These idiom cards are totally awesome. There are 4o cards total. Each card has an illustration of the literal meaning, the definition of the idiomatic expression, and then a question at the bottom to help carry over understanding. What I really like about this product is the instructions that include multiple ideas on how to use these cards!
Reading for Detail cards $10.99
(Sorry, I could not find the link for this!)
I already have a pack of these cards in a lower grade level. I picked up the 3.5-5.0 reading level during this shopping trip. I love these cards because it is a good way to collect solid data for reading comprehension goals.
Vocabulary Workbook $12.99
(sorry, I could not find the link for this!)
I picked up this vocabulary workbook because honestly I was tired of the vocabulary lists that I already have! However, once I really started to look over this workbook at home, I realized I totally scored! This books includes worksheets on: synonyms, antonyms, compound words, homophones, homographs, irregular plurals, rhyming words, word stories, and more!
Describing Words Learning Center $23.99 in-store (listed as $29.99 online)
Describing words is something I find myself working on often in both the school and home setting. Using describing words is an easy way to increase Mean Length of Utterance (MLU), understanding and use of vocabulary, and overall expressive language use. This product comes with 12 adjective cards and 48 noun chips. The purpose of this activity is to divide the nouns onto their appropriate descriptor card. However, once the chips are sorted, I have students/clients make a sentence about each chip. For example, “The zebra is striped.” Note: This activity can be used as a group activity or modified for 1:1 use.
Inference Cards $10.99 (each)
(sorry, I could not find the link for this!)
Again, I have these cards in a lower grade level. I picked up 2-3.5 and 3.5-5 reading level during this shopping trip. I use these ALL THE TIME in both the school and home setting!
What Should You Do? Game $19.99
This game is perfect for targeting social language goals. This game comes with 50 “question” cards and 30 “chance” cards. The “question” cards present dilemmas such as bullying, cheating on tests, organizing time, etc. They provide multiple choice answers for kids to select the appropriate solution. The “chance” cards provide a scenario with no multiple choice answers for a solution.
